Brianna’s Story

I was injured back in 2011 from a drinking and driving accident. Because of the rural area I lived in I didn’t have access to SCI specific therapy and was sent home with minimal skills for independence. I moved to the Charlotte area in 2022 after graduating college and my roommate, who was also a wheelchair user, helped me get back on the path in independence. She helped me learn how to pee and poop on the toilet, transfer without a transfer board, and get back to work full time. Right after the new year of 2025, I ended up with a cellulitis infection in my left butt cheek that landed me in the hospital for multiple weeks. In that time I lost a lot of strength, mobility, and independence. I am hoping to get the therapy needed to get back to where I was and even further than that so I can live a fulfilling and independent life.
This grant will make a huge impact in the recovery from this wound and give me the skills needed to be able to work/travel full time, transfer into vehicles safely, move out on my own, and show others in the community that no matter where you are in your recovery journey, its never too late to get better and stronger.
