Mukutar’s Story

Receiving the pt services would benefit Muki because he is facing challenges with movement in his legs and arms, balance and coordination. The regular therapy sessions with a professional will make a difference in building his strength and confidence, and the changes will be faster. The scholarship will help Muki and I because it will cover the cost of all the therapy sessions that we would have to cover out of our own pocket, so if we get the scholarship Muki would be able to get the professional help he needs without the financial stress. Most of Muki’s days are the same, but some days he isn’t able to the exercises as well, so a typical day would be him waking up, getting transferred to his wheelchair, brushing, and eating breakfast. During the space between meals we stand him up from the wheelchair and try to get him to walk. On his worst days he isn’t able to stand balanced, and isn’t able to get that much steps in. We also do arm exercises recommended by his Occupational therapist. During the day we transfer him back to his bed for a break, then back to his wheelchair. When the days over he takes his medication, brushes, and goes to bed. He’s able to assist during the day by communicating with us a lot. Muki is unable to make meals for himself or feed himself. He wears a condom catheter at night then we change it when he wakes up. During the day we change his diaper around 3 or 4 times when we do that we transfer him to his bed. Since his MVC in 10/2023, we have been working hard to get him the services he needs to progress. With this scholarship it would help us to have access to physical therapy resources that would help us to meet his goals of walking. He is still so young and receiving these specialized PT training services would help relieve our financial burden that we can not afford these sessions without payment assistance.
The grant would help provide these services we can not provide through financial means on our own.
