My SCI is not recent. I was hospitalized for a surgical debridement of a pressure sore in 2022. And ever since then I have been unable to stand. My left leg is stuck in flexion. I am struggling with transferring from my wheelchair to the bed and also when transferring for toileting and bathing. I had my doctor refer me for physical therapy, but I did not find it to be beneficial. It has been my experience that with Medicaid/Medicare as my insurance and an SCI that is not recent, the therapy is not as intense. This grant will allow me to pay for and receive services without the complications of insurance at a rehab facility specifically geared to rehabilitation for neurological disorders and conditions.
This grant will allow me to gain strength and be able to transfer in and out of the car to be able to attend family events again. It has been a long time.
