Kaneesha L.’s Story
I was completing my last week of Basic training when I unexpectedly had a heart attack.
Oct. 29, 2023 I experienced a life changing event. While riding as a passenger with my significant other, the vehicle was suddenly struck by another vehicle. In this very moment, my life changed. The impact caused the car to spin in the intersection, hit a guard rail and flipped multiple times down an embankment. After finally landing and trying to exit the car, I then grew aware of the fact that I had no feeling in my legs. I was immediately rushed to the hospital and I faintly overheard that I would be going into emergency surgery.
Later that morning, after waking up from surgery, the doctors explained that I had a Spinal Cord Injury. This injury caused me to be physically impaired from the chest down. I am not sure of what the future holds, but I am in great faith that I will regain physical strength and make it through this challenging time in my life.
